CAPPA trained doula
Were you named after someone?
Nope. They named me Deborah Elaine because they liked it. My initials growing up were D.E.B., kind of cool I think!
What are 3 words that best describe you?
If I had to pick just three words to describe myself I would say compassionate, humorous and loyal.
What is your favorite season?
I like spring because things start to bloom and I welcome the fresh air. I also like fall because it feels good to snuggle up.
What is your favorite food?
Gluten free pizza, yum!
Would you rather be hiking at a mountain hideaway or lounging at a beach house?
Yes please, I'll take both!
Kindle or paperback?
If you could do anything you wanted right now, what would it be?
Travel and explore with my loved ones.
Do you think you are strong?
I think I am a very strong person as a result of life experiences. I take pride in having strength as a wife, mother, sister, daughter and friend. I'm not above acknowledging my weaknesses though.
"Deb was my doula during the birth of our baby boy! She provided labor support to not only me, but my family as well. She was able to assist in the painful times and celebrate with us in the joyful times. She was an advocate, a support, and a great person to have during such a momentous time in my life."
"When I first found out I was pregnant I knew I wanted my aunt to be involved in the birth of my baby. Through her research she became inspired by the role of doula in the birthing process. When she told me that she had decided to become a certified doula I was ecstatic. How awesome to have not only my aunt, but also my aunt with doula training! From the beginning she was very interested in what my expectations were going to be for the birth. She wanted to know what I expected from her, what I would need for support, and what methods I prefer to decrease stress and promote relaxation. She came to the hospital fully prepared for my induction with massaging tools, oils, and support devices. Throughout my long labor process Deb was there by my side providing comfort and support. She was familiar and educated in the different positions that would assist in the labor and encouraged me to change positions frequently to increase progress. She provided focus through breathing and relaxation techniques during contractions. She advocated for me to the nurses, making sure that all my needs were met. She massaged my swollen legs and aching back and used techniques to support my body during challenging moments. Throughout it all she remained a calm and focused force that provided support to not only me, but my family as well. When my body would not allow my baby to drop and we all came to the realization that I would have to have a C-section, Deb was there to acknowledge my hard work and let me know that I did everything I could. In those moments I realized that my aunt had found her calling; to play a dynamic role as a doula, empowering and supporting women throughout the miracle of birth. Our lives were forever changed through this journey and I can’t wait to see her help others through the amazing journey of childbirth."
